TALK BRANDS #5: WHYME LONDON

We've got to the 5th part of our Talk Brands collective, the half way point, and this time it's all about Whyme London. Today we're talking to Simon from team Whyme, aged 24, based in South East London. If you're still not sure about starting your own brand, maybe he can help...

Where did Whyme London all begin and what made you want to run your own brand?
It started through a love of graffiti which we wanted to push in a more accepted fashion. We was both working for another clothing brand doing graffiti workshops in the summer of 2006/7. As the summer came to a close we both wanted to basically do it all ourselves and that's how we came about really.

How would you describe Whyme London?
We consider it to be more of a lifestyle. Something that we represent through various avenues but comes physically in clothing.
What is your favourite piece from your collection?
My favourite piece is from a previous collection; a forest green Calduroy shirt with tartan lining.

If you could sum up your brand in 3 words, what would they be?
It's very us.

What for you has been the highlight of running Whyme London to date?
Probably selling at pop up events around London. It's good to meet and greet the people who are interested in the brand.
What do you do outside Whyme London?
I DJ and run a club night

What is your favourite clothing brand, other than your own?
I don't really have a favourite, I don't actively go out and buy other brands clothes. I just buy what I like, generally it's just plain H&M stuff lol

Favourite brand of footwear?
As I wrote before but I do more Nikes than anything else
Who would you most like to do a collaboration with and why?
Probably a graffiti/street artist, someone like Jimi Crayon

What can we expect to see from Whyme London in the future?
We like to progress on every collection we drop so you will see something better than the last.

What, in your opinion, is the best thing about running your own brand?
Free clothes (haha) and generally just the fact that our clothing is worn around the world.
What advice would you give to someone who may want to start their own brand?
Don't do what everyone else does/is doing. Do what you love and like and be original.
